Zynga's Design Chief To Keynote GDC Online 2010

Posted August 25, 2010 by M.H. Williams

UBM TechWeb Game Network will be welcoming Brian Reynolds, Zynga’s Chief Game Designer, as the keynote speaker for GDC Online 2010 in Austin, Texas. Reynolds' address, entitled "Bears and Snakes! The Wild Frontier of Social Game Design," will discuss the growing userbase of Zynga’s Frontierville and the implications for future social network titles.

With more than 20 years of game development experience to his credits, Reynolds has been a part of noted Maryland-area developers like Firaxis, Big Huge Games, and recently, Zynga East. He’s proven his talent, being behind such classic PC titles like Civilization II, Alpha Centauri, and Rise of Nations, with sales of 6 million copies worldwide as a high mark. His first social title, FrontierVille, now reaches over 6 million players a day with no signs of stopping.

In his keynote address, Reynolds will explore how FrontierVille combines traditional design techniques with Zynga’s social gaming expertise. He will also discuss the challenge of bringing traditional social gaming models to new gamers, casual and hardcore alike. Finally, Reynolds’ talk will look to the future of the social gaming space and the opportunities for developers to make new experiences for gamers.

"Social games are increasingly attracting traditional game developers while also providing key learnings to leverage social features in all types of games," noted Izora de Lillard, Event Director, GDC Online. "We are proud to present Brian Reynolds at GDC Online with a talk that will inspire traditional and social game designers alike."

GDC Online will take place October 5-8, 2010 in Austin, Texas.
