Zynga Announces Haiti Relief Fund

Posted January 15, 2010 by David Radd

Zynga today announced a plan to run a special relief campaign for FarmVille, Mafia Wars and Zynga Poker. Users that purchase limited edition social goods in the top Facebook games will see their money go towards supporting emergency aid in Haiti via the World Food Program (WFP).

“The devastation in Haiti is unimaginable, and anything we or our users can do is tiny compared to the utter loss for this nation,” said Mark Pincus, Zynga’s CEO.

Mafia Wars users will receive a Haitian drum, FarmVille users will receive white corn and Zynga Poker contestants will receive a special chip package and a rare premium item. Zynga users have already raised $1.2 million for Haitian relief efforts.

Zynga’s users have already raised $1.2 million for Haiti through purchasing virtual social goods. The funds have provided school lunches to Haitian children and contributed to a revolving loan campaign for Haitian women living in extreme poverty.

This is great to see a big gaming company using it's mass audience to raise funds for this. I hope that it's continued to raise alot of money.
