Zelda Wii is Going to Come Out When it's Perfect, says Reggie

Messages from Nintendo about the next Zelda game on Wii have been a bit schizophrenic, with indications being early on that it would follow close to the series formula but later quotes indicated Nintendo was trying a new structure. Similarly, Nintendo has also given mixed messages on whether or not the game will be releasing in 2010 or not. Today, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime gave a more subjective milestone for when the Zelda title will release.

"Right now it's still in development but the key message that Mr. Aonuma and Mr. Miyamoto are telling us is that it really has to be perfect when it launches. That is what the fans are expecting,” said Reggie to Nintendo World [thanks CVG]. "So for all the Zelda fans out there right now, I'd say enjoy Spirit Tracks and know that the Zelda title for Wii is going to come out when it's perfect.”

Shigeru Miyamoto is a well renowned perfectionist, having pushed back the release date of games in the past for quality reasons. Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess had a few significant delays, though turning the game into a Wii launch title probably factored into those decisions.

id rather a game like zelda be delayed as many times in order for it to be perfect then be rushed and be an average adventure game, lucky for me that i have an xbox/ps3 so other games will occupy me.

Speaking of the new Zelda - am I the only one that wishes it wasn't going have 1:1 Movement with motion plus? I hated waggling the wiimote to strike with the sword in Twilight Princess - IMO No More Heroes has the right amount of motion controls without feeling gimmicky, press A to strike, and finishers and special moves use motion control. For those clamoring for 1:1 Motion+ have you tried the fencing for Wii Sports Resort? You and your Mii end up looking like the starwars kid flailing around like a spaz. In theory 1:1 controls sound nice but you have to actually know what to do with a sword (fencing, martial arts, whatever) for it to work right and look as elegant and non-spaz as it should.
