E3: Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Announced for the Wii

Posted June 15, 2010 by Ben Strauss

Nintendo decided to open up with the big guns this year as the latest incarnation of Zelda, which is titled The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Though Reggie Fils-Aime opened up the conference, Shigeru Miyamoto gave a short video demonstration on integrating the Wii Controller as a sword and shield combination, culminating in a rather grand “slasher” entrance.

The new Zelda game was showcased with a rather polished looking demo as presented by Miyamoto himself. Despite being far along, the demo was somewhat spoiled by “massive wireless interference” that affected how the game was presented; the bow and arrrow was having particular issues.  While Miyamoto was having some issues pulling off some of the actions he wanted to, gamers will get a chance to try it out the controls for themselves on the show floor.

The graphics, it's worth noting, were more stylized than Twilight Princess, though not cel-shaded like Wind Waker.  To conclude the presentation, the projected release date is for sometime next year.
