Yahoo Japan Launches Android App Store

Posted November 14, 2011 by M.H. Williams

Over in the Land of the Rising Sun, Yahoo Japan is the biggest search engine on the block and one of the largest websites in the region, period. So today’s announcement could be a big win for Android in Japan.  Yahoo Japan has launched its own Android app store, dubbed the Yahoo Market.

The app store currently provides reviews and ratings for existing apps on the Google’s Android Market, but Yahoo has said that it will be selling apps itself beginning in 2012.  This would put it on par with other Android app store offerings from other online marketplaces like Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

While Google’s laissez faire attitude with the Android Market is great for consumer choice, it seems to be bad for consumer trust and usability at times.  Do you prefer the freedom to download anything and everything, or would you prefer for apps to just work right from the beginning?
