With No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle about to ship in Europe, GameSpot U.K. caught up with CEO of developer Grasshopper Manufacture Goichi Suda (a.k.a. Suda-51) to talk about his future plans. Suda, who's of course already very familiar with motion controls on the Wii, is now "very interested" in the motion devices coming from both Microsoft and Sony. While he could port No More Heroes, he said he wants to build something new to take advantage of the new motion platforms. "I will make some original IP to fit that control system," he said.
Interestingly, aside from his curiosity about the new motion controllers, Suda also said how much he admired developer Quantic Dream for trying to do something fresh with Heavy Rain on PS3. He added that he would "very much like" to make a title somewhat similar to Heavy Rain in the future because he likes the idea of "new designs and anything that gives new experiences to the players."
That said, he acknowledged that creating a game like that could be difficult with "the current generation" of Japanese developers. Suda added that as developers become aware of the "different tastes" of the three major markets--Europe, North America, and Japan--it might become easier. Suda seems to be echoing what IndustryGamers recently said in our op-ed about RPGs and Japanese developers failing to innovate. Furthermore, he said that Western gamers are more open to games that are "silly" or "nasty" than those in Japan, which may have affected sales of No More Heroes in the country.
