Xbox Seeing Fewer Exclusives Because of Microsoft's Entertainment Focus?

Posted January 9, 2012 by James Brightman

Xbox 360, for many, has become an entertainment center. With the ability to stream music and videos, and numerous apps like Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, Epix, ESPN and many more, Microsoft is slowly but surely making the Xbox a feasible option to control the living room - and you can be sure this is by design, but does it come at the expense of more exclusive games? One analyst believes so.

Speaking to IndustryGamers in a recent feature, DFC Intelligence's David Cole remarked, "It looks like Xbox 360 game exclusives are becoming fewer as Microsoft focuses on applications other than games."

Cole is also of the view that Microsoft's Kinect camera is starting to become an expensive paperweight for many (similar to how the Wii was exciting at first and then was put in the closet by some owners).

"The Kinect may have sold well but we wonder if people are really using the device. Now that Microsoft has sold a lot of systems they need to ensure that their users actually have fun playing with those systems if they want them to stick with the Xbox brand for the long haul," Cole cautioned.
