Microsoft and Peter Chernin (a former News Corp. President) were in discussions for creating an Xbox Live TV channel, reports Bloomberg. This channel would apparently be exclusive to the Xbox 360, and Chernin raised the idea of adding a dollar or two to the Xbox Live subscription fee to pay for the service, which would feature both reruns and original shows.
“Peter is talking to lots of people about lots of ideas in the digital space,” said Chernin publicist Allan Mayer.
Microsoft has increasingly made moves that make it more and more into a media company; they currently offer streaming videos via Netflix, downloadable movies and TV episodes on Xbox Live Marketplace and on-demand video for Zune. The above Xbox Live channel would also fit with the recent rumors that Conan O'Brien was in talks to host a show on Xbox Live before signing with TBS.

This would have been an interesting development. There still might be some hope for it to come out eventually.
