Xbox Kinect Star Wars Title Delayed to 2012 to 'Ensure Full Potential'

Posted August 24, 2011 by James Brightman

Xbox Kinect users looking forward to a Star Wars experience on the camera peripheral will have to wait a bit longer, as Microsoft and LucasArts today confirmed that Kinect Star Wars has been pushed back from Holiday 2011 to, most likely, sometime in 2012. An exact date has not been assigned to the game.

"Microsoft and LucasArts have elected to move the launch of Kinect Star Wars beyond holiday 2011 to ensure the full potential of this title is realized," a spokesperson told OXM. "This move applies to both the Kinect Star Wars stand-alone game and the Kinect Star Wars Limited Edition Console. We will communicate additional timing information at a later date."

As BioWare (responsible for Knights of the Old Republic and the upcoming MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic) would tell you, any time you're dealing with a property as massively popular as the Star Wars license, great care must be taken to ensure it'll be a positive experience and live up to the mighty brand. Ghostbusters developer Terminal Reality is handling the Kinect Star Wars title, and it'll be their first effort for Microsoft's camera device.
