Next-generation speculation continues, with added support from the processor groups now saying that IBM and Global Foundries are currently working on the fabled Oban chip for the next Xbox console. The rumor has it that the company is working on the System on a Chip for Microsoft, specifically for use with the new Xbox.
Rumors have it that the new Oban chip is a 32nm chip that started production in December 2011. The chip will be a PowerPC CPU worked into an ATI Southern Islands GPU, essentially a modified 7000 series from the company. Rumors also say that the theory of an x86 compatible CPU will prove false, based on how the chip is being designed and where it is being produced.
Sources also seem to believe that a 2012 holiday launch at this point simply seems infeasible, instead believing that a 2013 launch is much more likely. That could give Microsoft incentive to show the console off in late 2012, as E3 rumors seem to be getting stronger.
