Microsoft has already made it well known that the Kinect is being treated as the biggest console launch in the history of gaming, and chief of staff for the Interactive Entertainment Business, Aaron Greenberg is sure that the Kinect will outdo the Wii in terms of launch sales.
"We haven’t given any projections beyond this holiday, but this will be the largest launch we’ve ever had as a business,” says Greenberg. “We’ll definitely sell more sensors than the Wii sold when it launched or the Xbox 360 sold when it launched.”
A $500 million marketing campaign with major advertising pushes, spots on Oprah and Ellen Degeneres, as well as mainstream focus has put Kinect out on the forefront of awareness for everyday consumers. Whether or not that translates into sales is one thing, but Microsoft remains confident that the device will sell like hotcakes.
