Xbox 360 Tops July Console Sales

Posted August 11, 2011 by James Brightman

Microsoft just sent word that its Xbox 360 console took the top sales mark for the fifth consecutive month, per NPD data in the U.S. Xbox 360 sold 277K units with 45% share of current-gen system sales.

Total retail spend on the Xbox 360 platform in July (hardware, software and accessories) also reached $250 million, which Microsoft stated is the most for any console in the U.S.

The company said Xbox 360 has been "selling more units in the U.S. than any other console for 13 of the past 14 months." The statement continued, "Despite a slowing of console and software sales across the industry, Xbox 360 remains on track to have the biggest year in Xbox history – an unprecedented feat in the sixth year of its lifecycle."

Looking ahead to the balance of 2011, Microsoft is eagerly anticipating a huge launch for Gears of War 3. "With Gears of War 3 launching next month and more major launches to follow during the holiday, we expect Xbox 360 to maintain its lead throughout the year, ending 2011 as the number one console worldwide," the company said.
