Xbox 360 Starts Off 2012 in Pole Position

Posted February 9, 2012 by David Radd

Microsoft today boasted about the fact that the Xbox 360 was the number-one selling console worldwide in 2011, which was also the biggest year in Xbox history. That momentum has continued into 2012, and the Xbox 360 was the best selling console in the U.S. during January with 270,000 units sold, putting the console on top for the 13th consecutive month.

The Xbox 360 holds 49 percent share of current-generation console sales and spending at retail, reaching $301 million, which was also greater than any console. The Xbox 360 has held more than 40 percent of the current-generation console market share for 11 straight months.

The NPD confirmed that the Xbox 360 had five of the top 12 U.S. console game titles. These games are (in no particular order): Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3, NBA 2K12 and Just Dance 3.
