Xbox 360 Price Cut at Walmart an Error, But It Will Be Honored Until September 5

Posted August 29, 2011 by James Brightman

Xbox 360 still hasn't seen an official price drop following Sony's PS3 price drop to $249, and Microsoft has insisted that it's under no pressure to cut price, but that didn't stop big box retailer Walmart from cutting price on Xbox 360 over the weekend - although now the retailer is saying it was an error.

In the August 28 circular at Walmart, the Xbox 360 4GB Kinect bundle was listed as a special "rollback" to $249. A notice posted by Walmart has stated that "the price was mistakenly labeled as a rollback," but that the retailer actually will honor the reduced price until September 5 (or while supplies last).

The price drop could be seen potentially as a mistake by letting the cat out of the bag early on an upcoming price drop from Microsoft, but Microsoft maintains that "Walmart made an independent decision to implement this temporary price cut."
