Xbox 360 Can't Even Match 50% of PS3, says Sucker Punch

Posted October 4, 2010 by Ben Strauss

The developer behind the inFAMOUS franchise has gone on record to say that the PS3 is superior to the Xbox 360 in a lot of ways. Sucker Punch, a PS3 exclusive developer, claims that the Xbox 360 can’t match even 50% of the capabilities present within the PS3.

"For Infamous 1 we were only using 20/25% of the power, now we're hovering over 50/60% of the power," designer Darren Bridges told CVG. "When we say it probably couldn't be done on the other console, we're talking strictly horsepower. Maybe it can be, but we just don't feel like the other console has the horsepower to carry this off."

Asked whether or not the PS3’s power was eclipsing the Xbox 360 Bridges responded with, “Well, yeah. Yeah. I mean we're still a way away from launching so we're probably going to throw more stuff on that Cell processor. So yeah... Do you think [Xbox 360] could pull off Uncharted 2? Everyone's comparing us to Uncharted 2, so if you think you can make Uncharted 2 on Xbox then OK maybe you can make Infamous 2 on Xbox."

Bridges admits that he isn’t even sure if the 360 could even handle inFAMOUS, and that the idea that the franchise could become multiplatform in any way seems like a stretch.

For me when playing PS3 exclusives I thought the graphics and performance was amazing, however, I really think the SCEA/EE sending their 'best programming' talent to assist the developer and they provide tier 1 technical support to the team to achieve this quality. I think this explanation explains why so many PS3 ports look and play poorer than their 360 versions. Sony should focus on making porting code to or from the PS3 a better and more optimized experience.

Gotta be honest, as a lot of gamers who "game" for fun I own a PS3 slim and an Xbox 360 slim, I've had both consoles (Not the slim versions of course) since they were released in 2005 and 2007 (UK) and I cannot stand the PS3, everything about it is time consuming, example, you wait months for a new game to come out and you pop it in your PS3 and there's an update, so you wait for the update, then wait yet again while the update is installed, Same situation on the 360 takes half te time, update and installed in one hit.. As for graphics, well there's very little to choose between the 2 consoles, I've done loads of comparison videos and you'd be surprised how many times the X360 outputs a higher resoultion than the PS3, Kane and Lynch for example on the PS3 outputs at just 720x568 while the X360 outputs at 1920x1080p:-

Kane & Lynch 2: PS3 Native Resolution
720p
PS3 Display resolution set to 1920x1080p
PS3 Kane and Lynch 2 display output:720x568

Kane & Lynch 2: Xbox 360 Native Resolutions
720p, 1080i, 1080p
Kane & Lynch 2 Xbox 360 output: 1920x1080

Almost every comparison video there is that show the PS3 vs Xbox 360 has the x360 as the better choice if you have both consoles..
To me the PS3 is for gamers who still need to grow up...

It’s unfortunate that a game developer would talk trash about another game console being inferior. I didn't hear the HALO/Bungie folks Trash the PS3. Its an insult whether true or not to try and sell your game or company off on the fact that the PS3 is a better console. Like we are going to believe there is no bias in that statement. If you where as smart as you think you would address the hard core gamers who mostly play on the 360 and not insult us. The fact that you only develop games for the PS3 and get paid millions from SONY for an exclusive is enough to taint even the slightest attempt to take you at your word. PS3 is a good system as is Xbox 360, the 360 is a way better online experience and no matter how great any PS3 game is it will never achieve the success of a 360 till they get the online side right. An by now it might be to late.
