After becoming the "fastest selling PC game ever," with 3.3 million sold at launch, Blizzard's WoW: Cataclysm expansion is fast approaching 5 million sold. The company announced today that the game hit 4.7 million in just one month. Blizzard noted that this sets a new record for monthly PC-game sales.
"We created thousands of new quests, introduced new lands to explore, and extensively revamped the game world for World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, making it our biggest and most ambitious expansion yet," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "We've been floored by the community's response so far, and we'd like to thank them for their continued passion and support for World of Warcraft, and for helping Cataclysm reach this incredible milestone."
WoW grew to 12 million subscribers worldwide before the launch of Cataclysm. Blizzard said it's currently hiring more people for its studio to keep pace with WoW's growth and other Blizzard titles still in development. Open job opportunities can be found here.
