Worms Creator Acquires Iguana Entertainment

Posted December 13, 2011 by Ben Strauss

The development team behind the popular Worms franchise has announced their latest acquisition in Iguana Entertainment Limited.  The new purchase will give Team17 a bigger push into the lucrative social market with Iguana working on the upcoming Worms Social.

"Jason and Darren [of Iguana] will play a key part in fulfilling our future plans for the company, with their industry and gaming knowledge," says Team17's managing director Debbie Bestwick. "They bring a wealth of cross-platform knowledge across an array of genres."

A goodly amount of current employees of Iguana will be folded into the Team17 staff, located out of Wakefield in the UK.  While they are working on a social version of the Worms franchise at this time, the team has announced three new titles that are currently in development.

The acquisition of Iguana by Team17 could spell good news for the studio, as Jason and Darren Falcus are revered throughout the British gaming industry for shipping over 100 titles across 35 different platforms.  Working on titles from Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo to The Guy Game, the brothers have extensive experience working from the PC, GBA and just about everything else currently available on the market.
