World of Goo Hits 1 Million Downloads in App Store

Posted January 10, 2012 by Ben Strauss

The incredibly popular World of Goo has hit a major milestone, announcing sales of more than 1 million for the App Store in just over 13 months.  Developer 2D Boy has announced that sales have been steady on both iOS and Android devices, helped along greatly by the HD Universal edition offered on the iPad.

Breaking down sales, Android’s offering has only been on the market since November, but has already had an impressive 520,000 downloads.  That's compared against the 1 million units that have primarily sold through the iPad.  2D Boy confirms that only 29% of all sales were made through the iPhone/iTouch while the remaining 79% belong to the rather expensive HD iPad edition.

World of Goo has two offerings, in a free demo version and paid version.  Specifically relating to Android, the full version of the game has sold over 70,000 copies, with over 450,000 ringing up as the free demo.  By comparison, the App Store version was only able to sell just over 180,000 total this time last year.
