Will Wright to Explore The Role of Toys at Engage! Expo

Posted October 6, 2009 by James Brightman

Legendary game designer Will Wright (Sims, Spore), who left EA/Maxis earlier this year to start up Stupid Fun Club, will deliver the opening keynote at Engage! Expo next year. The event takes place February 16-17, 2010, at the Javits Convention Center in New York City and runs concurrently with the American International Toy Fair.

Wright started Stupid Fun Club so that he could work on things besides just video games, and toys have always been an interest for the game maker. His keynote, "The Evolution of Entertainment, A Toy's Place," will examine toys, play, and the product development process from a new perspective. "I'm really excited to be at Engage! Expo and Toy Fair this year. I mean come on, who doesn't love toys?" said Wright.

Wright is viewed as such a visionary that any toys to come out of Stupid Fun Club could potentially make a huge impact on the overall toy industry. "In some sense, what I'm really looking at is the evolution of the entertainment industry," Wright said.

"Will Wright is an interpreter of social landscapes and human nature, toy enthusiast, promoter of play, and renowned creator of the world's top-selling computer game of all time," said Christopher Sherman, Founder and CEO of Engage Digital Media. "We are extremely pleased to have him kick off Engage! by sharing his wisdom and insight."
