Welcome to FarmVille, Population 11 Million

Posted August 27, 2009 by David Radd

Zynga today proudly announced that it has the fastest growing social network game in history. FarmVille now has over 11 million daily active users, and has drawn in over a million new users per week since launching June 19, 2009.

"FarmVille demonstrates the huge market potential of social gaming - in just 9 weeks the game has become a cultural phenomenon," said Mark Pincus, founder and CEO of Zynga. "No other application has achieved what this game has in such a short amount of time. Who would have guessed that FarmVille is now the biggest online game in North America and quickly becoming the biggest online game in the world."

"FarmVille's growth is nothing short of spectacular and a clear indicator that we have a winning formula for giving players around the world a virtual farming experience that they truly enjoy," said Mark Skaggs, VP and GM of Zynga's Social RTS studio. "By combining the best elements of social gaming, with people's instinct to nurture, we've created an incredibly fun, wholesome and rewarding experience."

We personally know several people who play FarmVille, but IndustryGamers tries to be productive during the day and avoids games on social networking sites (honest!).

I'm not gonna lie - Farmville has become a part of my daily routine. I eventually had to start planting longer-term crops (like Watermelon, which takes four days to grow) in order to prevent the game from interrupting my work day.

Admittedly, I'm hooked on it, too. I've had friends say, "Can I meet you an hour later, I've got crops coming in and I don't want to miss them." I plant around my schedule--like Justin, I'll plant long-growth crops to prevent work/social interruptions.

A month ago, I'd not heard of this game... now, I can't imagine not playing everyday.

I really try to avoid online stuff like FarmVille because I'm worried it will interrupt my schedule. I don't play MMOs and other games that never end for similar reasons.
