It seems Target isn’t the only one realizing that video games are big business now. Today, Walmart has announced their Gamecenter, an online one-stop-shop for all things gaming. The Gamecenter will host previews, first-look exclusives, deals for consumers, and game trade-ins.
"Walmart Gamecenter combines incredible savings with exclusive gaming content all in a compelling and interactive experience online," says Walmart.com Vice President of Merchandising Kelly Thompson. "Gaming enthusiasts will be drawn in by the exclusive content and developer interviews, while moms will appreciate the special savings only Walmart can offer on the hottest video game titles."
The site is offering a launch deal: Preorder a total of three or more of the year’s biggest games, including Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, Crackdown 2, Medal of Honor, and Dead Rising 2, and receive a free $50 eGift card. All titles ordered from Walmart online can be shipped for just 97 cents each.
Customers can also look forward to trade-ins through Walmart’s online operations. Used video games and consoles can be sent to the company with the trade-in values redeemed as prepaid Walmart gift cards.
The site will focus on featured titles, showcasing deals on those games, exclusive interviews and trailers, and extra game content. This month’s featured titles are UFC Undisputed 2010, Split Second, NCAA Football 11, and Toy Story 3.
