Wal-Mart Will Finally Publish Game Sales Data

Posted July 22, 2011 by Ben Strauss

The largest consumer chain in the world has announced that they will begin to share sales data of U.S. based stores.  The end of the decade-long ban will finally allow research firms such as Nielsen and NPD to track and analyze an even broader picture.

That's big news for the gaming industry and market research firms, as this means gaming title sales will be unveiled.  Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club both sell games across the country.

The new info is sure to reveal Wal-Mart’s place in the game sales ladder.  Will Wal-Mart take the top spot?  We’re not certain, but the addition of the biggest brand in the world is definitely going to help provide an even more accurate picture to how games are selling (at retail, that is).
