Wal-Mart Fixing for Round Two in the Used Game Business

Posted May 7, 2010 by Ben Strauss

Readers might remember Wal-Mart’s first attempt at getting into the highly profitable used-game market last year back in October. At the time, Wal-Mart provided in-store kiosks that were all but forgotten and removed by February earlier this year.

Wal-Mart was none too pleased with the result, and if Lutz Miller, an analyst with Klosters Trading, is to be believed, “My sources tell me that Wal-Mart is going to try again, but this time not with a half-hearted attempt like last year, but in a full-fledged effort to wrest market share away from GameStop by using their own personnel in their own video game space.” [Thanks MCV

There's no mention on when the newer, more powerful rendition of the used game program is getting started, but as Miller adds, “I am told that tests in some stores have already started.”
