Vita UMD Passport Program Passed By Publishers

Posted December 1, 2011 by M.H. Williams

A great number of current PSP owners have UMDs, which is a problem for Sony since the new PlayStation Vita is compatible with PSP games… just not UMD PSP games.  In early November, the company revealed its UMD Passport program to transfer UMD titles to the Vita for a variable fee.  Yesterday, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan released its list of the 262 supported PSP titles.

Unfortunately, that list is missing support from key PSP publishers like Square Enix, Namco Bandai, Konami, and Capcom.  Out of the 606 games on the Japanese PlayStation Store, only 262 have made the cut so far.  Smaller publishers like Atlus, Nippon Ichi, Acquire, and SNK Playmore have jumped on board though.

Sadly, there’s still no announcement on if the service will grace Western shores.
