Today, Verizon has announced an extensive redesign of the Verizon Games portal and desktop app. In collaboration with its games-on-demand partner, Exent, Verizon’s new app brings a “more intuitive and interactive experience for customers exploring the world's largest PC games-on-demand subscription service, with more than 1,500 game choices.”
The new Verizon Games app, built with GameTanium, is animated and more appealing to a mass-market audience. Users can view the entire catalogue of games on one screen, without having to search through a tedious browser experience.
Verizon Games is also adding a free 14-day trial of the service, with unlimited access to all games. Customers can cancel at anytime. Basic subscription packages are still available on the service, but the app will also offer additional choices, including one-hour test drives and direct purchase options.
"The early positive feedback from our test gamers has been overwhelming, and we've been looking forward to the opportunity to open up the new Verizon Games experience to all of our customers," said Jason Henderson, games product manager at Verizon. "With the new app and website, people will get the same unparalleled customer experience from their PC games service as they do from Verizon's TV, Internet and phone services."
New community features are being added to the app as well. Users can create their own stylized avatar and profile, or decorate their Verizon 3D Games Lounge with virtual items. Trophies and Prize Points are also available to show off for friends and family.
"The Verizon Games platform is the result of much end-user research," said Jason Akel, VP of Exent. "We are quite proud of the resulting interface, which is highly accessible to gamers of all types. At the same time, it was important to us that the interface emphasizes function over form so as not to distract from what the users are really there for -- the world's largest catalog of PC downloadable games."

Looks like they're going with a games as services model but at least they offer a direct purchase offer. Will they offer free re-downloads and drm free content? Will controller support be offered for games? I'll probably never know.
