EA has stepped up its game with the launch of Origin, including removing some of its biggest titles from the current king of digital distribution, Steam. Marquee titles like Mass Effect and Battlefield 3 will seemingly skip Steam upon release. With these moves, you'd think Valve would have more to say about its new rival.
"I think it does some things well. I think there are still some areas where, as a customer, I'd like to see it improve. It's not that different from any other system like this. There are positive things and negative things,” said Valve boss Gabe Newell.
Newell told PCGamer (via CVG) that he took the time to try out EA’s Origin service and see the lay of the land. He also noted that the market changes frequently as new competitors enter the space.
"I and everyone at Valve know that you're only as successful as what you've done lately. So the idea that Steam is somehow the answer to digital distribution ignores the fact that every two or three years, something is going to change dramatically,” Newell said.
Is anyone looking forward to EA providing some true competition to Valve’s powerhouse?
