Valve Software has famously avoided developing for the PS3 directly so far this generation. While the company's preference for the PC architecture has been made clear, Left 4 Dead 2 project lead Tom Leonard told Loot Ninja [via Kotaku] flat out why they won't develop for the PS3.
"The PC and the 360 are just more straightforward," stated Leonard. "We can focus on what we want to do, which is make game experiences, instead of sweating bullets over obscure architectural decisions they make with their platform... I didn’t come into this business in the '90s because of some technical fetish. I came in because I wanted to give people experiences that made them have fun."
So there you have it. We wouldn't count on Left 4 Dead (or its sequel) coming to PS3 any time soon, at least not directly from Valve.
Valve Bags PS3's 'Obscure Architecture'

What some people seem to forget is that the games industry started out and until very recently has been very dependent on technical ingenuity. Games were/are the driving force behind much of the work done on 3D acceleration on video cards. If everybody in the game industry had had the same attitude towards technical excellence we would be enjoying Mr. Leonard's experiences in monochrome (and in 2d, coz all that 3d stuff is just a 'technical fetish'). Oh, and having developed for the PS3 myself I can safely say 'stop whining, it ain't that hard'.
