UFC 2009 Now Undisputed Among MMA Titles with 3.5 Million Shipped

Posted February 2, 2010 by David Radd

THQ announced today that UFC 2009 Undisputed has shipped 3.5 million units worldwide. Additionally, the game has been made part of the PS3 “Greatest Hits” collection and has also been given "Platinum Hits" status for the Xbox 360, granting the MMA title the new budget price of $29.99.

"Reaching 'Platinum Hits' and 'Greatest Hits' status is an honor that speaks to the strength of our software and the power of the UFC brand," said Brian Coleman, Vice President of Global Brand Management, THQ. "With a reduced price point, more players can now step into the Octagon and take part in the ultimate virtual UFC experience."

"We are excited that so many fans around the world have helped us achieve these impressive milestones in our debut year," said Dana White, President, UFC. "UFC 2009 Undisputed opened the door for us to further share the UFC brand with videogame and fight fans around the world, and we cannot wait to return this spring with the release of UFC Undisputed 2010 on May 25, 2010."

EEDAR chairman Greg Short explained to IndustryGamers last August that THQ benefited from the fact that there had not been a UFC game for 4 years, and the publisher did an excellent marketing job too. "I thought THQ did a fantastic marketing campaign, where you really see this whole 'live the fighter' experience in the commercial. It's so seamless the way they put the campaign together. What I think they really hit home with was that the UFC demographic was really larger than most people thought it was," he said.

Way to go THQ! Nice comeback, after everyone had counted them out.

" Undisputed Among MMA Titles", not exactly a big deal considering that there have only been like 5 MMA games released before. Still, congrats to THQ. I haven't played the game before, but it's gotten tons of great reviews from both critics and fans.

I played the demo and it was awesome....but also very complex. I'm going to be picking this game up soon anyway.
