Ubisoft Has Twice as Many Games Planned for Natal than PlayStation Motion

Posted November 30, 2009 by James Brightman

In a conference call following today's earnings announcement, French publisher Ubisoft provided some new information on what level of support we can expect for the upcoming motion sensing platforms from Microsoft and Sony. Chief Executive Yves Guillemot would appear to be favoring Project Natal for now, but he cautioned that portfolio strategies are always subject to change.

"We have about ten games that will come for Natal during the first six months of the launch of Natal, and we expect between four to five games for the new controller from Sony," he said. "That's the picture at the moment, [but] it can change in the next twelve months."

He was then asked on the call whether these motion control games would in fact be new properties or simply extensions of existing IP. "I didn't count the games that in fact are supporting the new functions that those accessories will bring," Guillemot responded. "I was more speaking about casual games that we are doing on those two machines; we can consider that on those games it's 70 percent new property."

Both Project Natal and Sony's motion controller should factor heavily into how the industry performs in 2010, particularly the second half. EEDAR expects that the introduction of these motion control platforms should ultimately lead to lower software pricing as well.

And yet we still wonder if any of these games will be something we should care about.
