With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 finally out, soon Activision will turn the page to start promoting the next Call of Duty title. Given Activision’s dual studio approach to the franchise, developer Treyarch seems destined to work on the product, something reinforced today by a job posting uncovered by Superannuation.
In the listing for a level builder for an unspecified Call of Duty title, it mentions “research subject matter for history and look of the level” among the various of responsibilities. While certainly not a confirmation of anything, it heavily suggests that the developer’s next Call of Duty title will be set in the past.
While many will take this revelation as confirmation that Treyarch will once again be returning to the World War II setting, other clues suggest otherwise. Rumors earlier this year reported that Cold War era music was being licensed at Activision and Treyarch senior producer Noah Heller said that with Call of Duty World at War “we put [World War II] to bed.”
