Tony Hawk: Ride and Tony Hawk: Shred didn't perform very well at retail. The games tried to breathe new life into a franchise that's been fading rapidly over the years, but the gameplay and new skateboard peripheral just didn't do the trick.
Despite the fact that Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing, told us that Hawk still has Jordan-like staying power, when Activision made the decision to cut Guitar Hero and others (and confirmed that there wouldn't be any skateboarding titles in 2011), most made the assumption that the Tony Hawk series was finally done. Not so fast, says the iconic skateboarder himself.
In a new interview with Hawk on Pixelated Geek, it was revealed that Activision may indeed bring about a new installment in the withering franchise next year. "We're going to do something probably for next year but I can't give too much away," Hawk said.
If Activision has indeed given the project the green light, we'll be very curious to see what strategy they're taking with it, as consumers just don't seem to have the same interest in the series these days.
