Activision's Tony Hawk: Ride was absolutely lambasted by the critics (a fact that Tony Hawk himself complained about), and the game went on to sell a lowly 114K units in U.S. during November. It wasn't exactly the kind of start publisher Activision Blizzard had been hoping for when they decided to reinvent the long-running franchise.
Tony Hawk has always been fairly involved with the development process behind his game series, but in this instance he seems to be more outspoken on the project than he ever has with his previous skateboarding titles. As Kotaku pointed out, in a move that almost smacks of desperation, Hawk recently tweeted that people playing Ride could send him Xbox Live friend invites to his Gamertag (tonyinegypt) and he would accept. He later apologized for having a full friends list and said he'd be doing some spring cleaning, noting "hint: if you play @thride online, you're in."
It could be that Hawk is just genuinely excited about his game - it's just too bad that he seems to be the only one.
