Tomb Raider Goes Digital With New, 'Very Different' Adventure

Posted March 4, 2010 by James Brightman

Eidos (which is owned by Square Enix) has been relying on developer Crystal Dynamics to reinvigorate the Tomb Raider franchise, which had become stale in the hands of Core Design. The studio already has breathed new life into the series with several retail releases (and downloadable content) and now Crystal Dynamics has plans to release an entirely original digital game called Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light.

Exact platforms were not mentioned, but we'd assume Xbox Live and PlayStation Network will both be in the mix. “This is a really exciting project for Crystal Dynamics, we have created something completely new and very different to what people might be expecting,” said Darrell Gallagher, General Manager of Crystal Dynamics. “Lara Croft is such an iconic character in videogames, with Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light we have created what we believe is a truly original digital experience.”

The new title will be shown off behind closed doors at GDC next week. IndustryGamers has plans to meet with Gallagher and see the game, so we hope to have more insight soon.
