Unlike most websites or magazine that have a single Top 10 list for whatever they cover, Time covers everything, so they created a truly monstrous Top 10 of Everything in 2010 list. The list covers albums, comebacks, gadgets, movies, and even Tweets. Their Top 10 Video Games list stands out because the number one is none other than Remedy’s Alan Wake. The critically-acclaimed horror title was released to poor sales, but retains a devoted fan following.
“Alan Wake's biggest triumph lies in turning metaphor into game play. Yes, you fight the possessed townspeople of Bright Falls with the typical pistols and shotguns, but only after shining light on them to burn the darkness off,” writes list author Evan Narcisse. ”Its mix of meta-awareness and Hitchcockian suspense make Alan Wake a unique and fun experiment and one of the best games of the year.”
The rest of the list is as follows:
-
Alan Wake
-
Angry Birds
-
Red Dead Redemption
-
Halo: Reach
-
Super Mario Galaxy 2
-
Limbo
-
Super Meat Boy
-
Super Street Fighter IV
-
Starcraft II
-
Mass Effect 2
That’s right. Alan Wake and Angry Birds stood toe-to-toe with media darlings Red Dead Redemption and Mass Effect 2 and they won. Life is full of surprises.

Yes. We did it. Woohooooooooooooooooooooo. It's about time somebody recognized Alan Wake's brilliance. Was it flawed in a few places? Sure but what game isn't. All that matters is it was a very compelling uniquely structured game that deserves a sequel. Sadly that will most likely never happen. But atleast it's Time's game of the year.
