Posted July 14, 2011 by Ben Strauss

The world of online gaming and the burgeoning digital currency trade are starting to see a major uptick, as 2011 has spurred digital transactions past three million units of currency for one company that specializes with in-game currency.  Sometrics, a provider of in-game currency solutions to a broad base of publishers, announced the milestone.

With clients such as Nexon, Bigpoint, Habbo, NHN USA, and others, Sometrics has served over 90 different payment options to over 225 million gamers in 180 countries. Out of those countries, most of the transactions occur over the weekends with a credit card and in the United States.

“The online games space has been growing exponentially over the past few years, particularly in the free-to-play space that monetizes through virtual currency transactions,” said Ian Swanson, CEO of Sometrics.

“Millions and millions of people across various demographics are playing online games and customizing their experiences through the purchase of virtual goods. Over the years we’ve greatly expanded our efforts to provide publisher partners with the tools to localize, manage and optimize their payment platforms for a global, diverse audience of gamers.”

“The milestones that we’ve achieved and the data that we’re releasing today reflect the incredible amount of success we’ve accomplished as an organization and together as an industry.”
