THQ Cuts 30 Employees After HD uDraw Stumbles

Posted December 12, 2011 by M.H. Williams

Last Friday, THQ announced that it had cut 30 members from its Play THQ development team, including unit leader Martin Good, after the poor sales of the PlayStation 3 and 360 versions of the uDraw Tablet.  The Play THQ team was housed in Agoura Hills, CA.

“Due to weaker than expected sales of the uDraw Game Tablet, we are taking a difficult but important step to reduce the number of employees that supported this brand. 30 people will be leaving the company and business unit leader Martin Good will also be leaving to pursue new opportunities outside the company. This action will allow us to reduce costs, increase efficiency and increase the focus of our organization,” the publisher told Game Informer in a statement.

This is the fourth round of layoffs for THQ this year.  The first involved members at Kaos Studios and Volition, the second killed off Kaos Studios completely, and the third cut two studios in Australia and one in Phoenix, Arizona.  On the bright side, the year is almost over so there’s not much more THQ could cut in 2011.
