The Witcher 2 Delayed Due to Legal and Polishing Issues

Posted August 1, 2011 by Ben Strauss

The Xbox 360 version of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings has taken yet another hit.  Polish developer CD Projekt has been forced to move the release date of the game back to Q1 2012 in order to finish up with an ongoing legal struggle with Namco Bandai.  This has also afforded the studio an opportunity to finish polishing items for the title.

"The Xbox 360 version of The Witcher 2 is an adaptation of the game to the new platform," said CD Projekt in a statement. "This means that the process involves significant changes and improvements for the Xbox 360 console version - not a typical port of the game, which is usually much simpler and faster. The move of the release date allows the team to spend more time expanding and polishing certain elements of the gameplay."

Namco Bandai has also been noted for holding things up for CD Projekt.  CD Projekt’s owner Optimus SA and Namco Bandai have been in an ongoing dispute over European distribution rights to the title.

All of this info has been acknowledged by CD Projekt boss Adam Kicinski, who wanted to be upfront with fans.  "We have decided not to withhold information and to tell our fans immediately of the Xbox 360 launch moving to Q1 2012," he explained. "As the launch of the game approaches, we will be sharing more details how it will be released on Xbox 360. I trust that despite the release date shift, players will be satisfied with what we are planning for them."
