Electronic Arts today announced the next step in The Sims franchise with a new series called The Sims Medieval. That’s right, The Sims are going back to the Middle Ages, with kingdoms, knights, maidens, and perhaps the Black Plague. Players can create all new heroes, go on quests, and establish their own kingdom.
“The Middle Ages is a time of intrigue, legend, and excitement. It offers a perfect backdrop for a brand new series from The Sims studio due to the limitless stories that can be told,” said Scott Evans, General Manager of The Sims Studio at EA. “The Sims Medieval offers a new way for players to experience The Sims which we hope fans will enjoy, and it features gameplay that fans of strategy and role-playing games will find appealing such as controlling an entire kingdom and quest-based gameplay mechanics.”

Players can create Sims in a number of all-new jobs, like King, Knight, Wizard, Blacksmith, and Bard. Quests provide storytelling flavor, allowing players to craft an epic weapon, arrange a royal wedding, or find the fountain of youth. Every quest is different depending on what Hero Sim the player uses.
The kingdom’s future rests on the players’ choices. Will you be a tyrant, expanding your territory by crushing your enemy beneath your heel? Will you be a kind ruler, dedicated to helping your people? Or will you build yourself an extravagant palace while your subjects die around you? The choice is yours.
The game will retain the robust customization that The Sims is known for. Players can customize every Hero, from their basic look down to their fatal flaw. New objects include thrones, sword, stocks, and other medieval-themed items.
The Sims Medieval is being developed by EA’s The Sims Studio for PC and Mac. The game is slated for release in Spring 2011.
