Tecmo Koei Moves to Acquire Gust

Posted December 7, 2011 by Ben Strauss

Tecmo Koei has announced their intention to acquire Gust, the studio responsible for the Atelier franchise.  Tecmo will be purchasing all 495 shares of Gust from 100 percent shareholder Keiken Holdings.  The move will cost Tecmo just over 22 million yen, or $283,000.

Tecmo currently has no holdings in the small developer, but Koei Tecmo Net serves as the domestic publisher for Gust’s titles.

Tecmo hopes to capitalize on the rising popularity of the Atelier series, which is available in the States.  The franchise will see boosted investment, with the hopes that expanded content and game mechanics will help grow the series.
