It seems developers’ dislike of used games sales isn’t dissuading another retail giant from implementing their own program. Target announced today that it was implementing a new service called Target Electronics Trade-In. The new service will allow consumers to turn in their new or used video games, DVDs, mobile phones, and MP3 players for in-store credit.
"Target Electronics Trade-In offers our guests an opportunity to upgrade their consumer electronics items for less," said Mark Schindele, senior vice president, Target.
Consumers can bring their games and equipment to the new Target Mobile counter for appraisal and trade-in. Value is dependent on the product being traded and its condition. Consumers will then receive in-store credit to be used on any purchases in Target, or a Target GiftCard.
The service is rolling out in Northern California this month, with additional stores in September and 850 stores expected to offer it by December 2010. A nationwide rollout is expected to be complete by 2011.

I hope they also launch this program on the east coast.

They have. Though it seems that most of the stores are in California... there are quite a few on the east coast. I know for a fact that some stores in OH, NH, MA, and NY have started the trade in program
