Super Mario 3D Land Crosses 5 Million Sold

Posted January 27, 2012 by Ben Strauss

Nintendo might not be doing so hot if you ask investors, but news of strong software sales should hopefully help to boost the company's fortunes as it prepares for the release of its next-generation console.  The company reported that Super Mario 3D Land has become the first 3DS title to surpass 5 million units sold, with other popular titles closing in.

All in all, 5.03 million units have been sold for Super Mario 3D Land, while 4.54 million units were picked up by consumers for Mario Kart 7.  Other big winners include the Ocarina of Time 3D offering, which hit a respectable 2.49 million units.

Additionally, sales for the latest Zelda title on Wii have been respectable in a time of the Wii’s decline.  Skyward Sword punched in over 3.42 million sales overall for holiday 2011.
