Steam Getting Infusion of Sega Genesis Games

Posted May 24, 2010 by M.H. Williams

In a move that's perhaps not all that surprising given the new all-digital focus at Sega of America, Sega announced today that they will be bringing classic Sega Genesis titles over to the Steam platform.

Starting June 1st, Steam players will be able to purchase and download Golden Axe, Ecco The Dolphin, Comix Zone, and Vectorman. Sega also showed possible following releases of Altered Beast, Sonic 3D Blast, Space Harrier, Shadow Dancer, Gain Ground, and Crack Down. If these releases prove profitable, Sega expects more games to follow suit.

Many of these titles are available on other platforms, either through disc-based Genesis Collections, or through digital download services like Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and Wii’s Virtual Console. Several of these titles cost $8 on the Virtual Console, but the Steam versions will be an easier-to-swallow $2.99 and up.
