Stardock Moves to Steam Distribution Following Impulse Sale

Posted November 16, 2011 by Ben Strauss

Stardock has freed up their conflict of interest in digital distribution, following their sale of Impulse to GameStop earlier in the year.  That now gives them the chance to move into the largest digital distribution marketplace in the world, Steam.

Stardock CEO Brad Wardell is happy to move into a market that his company gauged at 70 percent of the total market back in 2009.  The company is bringing one of their most popular titles to bear for the first release; Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity will be available for download in short order.

"With the sale of our former PC digital download technology to GameStop earlier this year, we no longer have any conflicts of interest in offering our titles to other digital distribution channels," said Wardell on the matter.

While Impulse was the lion’s share of revenue for the company, Wardell admits that the move to sell was in the company’s best interest.  He notes that competition with GamersGate and other services was taking away from the focus of development, and that GameStop will be more than capable of keeping Impulse going.
