Star Wars: The Old Republic Hits 2 Million Beta Users

Posted December 5, 2011 by Ben Strauss

The anticipation is growing even more for the upcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic.  EA has revealed that the beta was able to bring in over 2 million unique users, with over 725,000 of them showing up Thanksgiving weekend.  The beta was able to attract over 2.4 million eager gamers, making it “one of the biggest beta tests in history.”

This is certainly good news for BioWare and Electronic Arts, who reportedly have a lot riding on the success of the game.  Analysts and game fans everywhere are becoming more and more open to the idea of another MMORPG taking up gamer’s time.  Beta testing results indicate that average gameplay for the post-holiday weekend topped 12 hours per player, culminating in over 9 million hours overall.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is shaping up to be a major success; EA has stated that only 500,000 subscribers are needed to  make the game profitable, and it would appear that the game will attract many more than that.  With the decline of World of Warcraft, gamers might just be looking for something new to try.  Star Wars: The Old Republic is set for launch on December 20 for the US and Europe.
