Today was a big day for shareholders, as shareholder meetings happened across 1,087 companies. This year is of great interest to many, as companies are now forced to show shareholders which board members received over ¥100 million. Asahi reported on a few of these salaries today, including many executives within the gaming industry.
Nintendo President Satoru Iwata makes a base salary of ¥68 million ($769,448) with a final total of ¥187 million ($2.1 million) after performance bonuses. The company’s profits for the year came to around ¥228.6 billion ($2.5 billion) down 18.1% from last year. Annual sales declined to ¥1.434 trillion ($15.4 billion).
Surprisingly, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada tracked higher than Iwata with ¥240 million ($2.7 million) in compensation. This is despite the fact that Square Enix only reported ¥192 billion ($2.1 billion) in annual sales and ¥9.5 billion ($107 million) in profit.
Other executives include Sega Sammy Holdings CEO Osamu Satomi with ¥435 million ($4.9 million), Sony CEO Howard Stringer with ¥816.5 million ($9.2 million), Sony CFO Nobuyuki Oneda with ¥164.39 million ($1.8 million), and Namco Bandai President Kazunori Ueno with ¥137 million ($1.5 million).
A report in April from Game Developer Research showed that the average salary of a games industry executive in America was $94,608.
