While the buyout of Eidos by Square Enix combined a Western publisher with a Japanese one, the two have remained their own separate development entities... until now. Speaking at the Montreal Games Summit [thanks Develop], Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada announced a third title in development at Eidos Montreal alongside Deus Ex 3 and Thief 4 that will be infused with Square Enix’s Japanese development resources.
Saying that the game "would be the first collaboration between Square Enix and Montreal," Wada added, "We would like to be able to create a new title that is made by the group as one."
Wada noted that Square Enix holdings didn’t think there was a true global market, only a variety of audiences. He mentioned little else about the new title, not confirming whether it will be an original IP or a sequel in an existing Eidos or Square Enix franchise.
