The Japanese development and publishing giant responsible for the Final Fantasy franchise has posted a 1.8 billion yen ($20.9 million) profit for the first fiscal quarter ended June 30.
This news comes as welcome relief despite a loss of 19.8 million yen from the same period last year. Sales climbed a total of 10% to $377.8 million year-over-year.
The digital entertainment division of Square Enix specifically posted $193 million in sales, with $68.6 million in operating income.
The publisher's revenues reflect the strong sales of Final Fantasy XIII in the U.S. and Europe. The company declined to reveal how many units were sold, but it did note that Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 sold 1.25 million units since its April launch.
Square Enix joins several other companies that have posted profits over the past several weeks. Sega, Konami and Namco Bandai have all stated that due to increased globalization and online business practices, sales have helped push the companies back into the black.
