Electronic Arts is continuing its love affair with Hollywood, as Variety reports that Spore is being made into a movie. Twentieth Century Fox will work with Electronic Arts to make Spore into an animated feature with Chris Wedge (Ice Age, Robots) set to direct.
The Princess and the Frog and The Return of King Doug writers Greg Erb and Jason Oremland will compose the script. EA and Blue Sky Studios will produce the flick while the latter is finishing up on Rio.
"I'm always looking for unique worlds to go to in animation," Wedge said. "From every perspective -- visually, thematically and comedically -- the world of Spore provides the potential to put something truly original on the screen."
EA Entertainment's Patrick O'Brien and VP of Maxis Studio Lucy Bradshaw will executive produce the Spore film. While all Spore releases have sold over 3.2 million units worldwide, EA hopes the movie will expand the audience for the game even more.
"With more than 100 million unique creatures uploaded to our website, it's clear that people are passionate about the game, and it will be exciting to offer a powerful medium like film in order to expand their experience with Spore," said Bradshaw.
Movie projects in the works from EA include The Sims, Army of Two, Dante’s Inferno, Dead Space, and Mass Effect. Spore marks the sixth motion picture deal that EA has set up since it partnered with UTA.

I hope this film stays true to the plot and characters of the game.
