Splinter Cell Creative Director Bids Sam Fisher Farewell

Posted May 3, 2010 by M.H. Williams

Nine years at one company is a long time in the gaming industry. And Clint Hocking has spent those nine years making some downright amazing games. The Lead Designer of Far Cry 2 posted today on his personal blog that he had given notice of his resignation to Ubisoft.

Hocking got his start working as a game designer and script writer on the Tom Clancy-endorsed, Splinter Cell, which Official Xbox Magazine gave a 96, even higher than Bungie's blockbuster system seller, Halo. Splinter Cell hit big and birthed a whole new franchise for Ubisoft. Hocking continued work on the Splinter Cell series, returning for the second sequel, Chaos Theory - which is still considered by some players to be the high point of the series, and holds the franchise's highest metascore on Metacritic with a 94.

Clint then served as the Lead Designer and Creative Director of Far Cry 2. Powered by the Ubisoft-proprietary Dunia engine, the sequel hit stores in 2008 and wowed gamers with realistic fire effects and destructible environments, but was released to average reviews overall.

Hocking has had a substantial career. In his own words, "in my almost nine years here, I have shipped three games with over twelve million units sold through, and an average meta-critic of over 90%. I’ve been very lucky to say the least." IndustryGamers hopes his luck continues and we wish him the best in future endeavors.

M.H. Williams has been writing in some form or another for ten years and has been a hardcore gamer since the NES first graced American shores.  You can catch him on Twitter as @AutomaticZen, Google+ as himself, or on his personal Facebook page.
