Splinter Cell Conviction Near 2 Million Sold as Ubisoft Doubles Sales in Q1

Today, Ubisoft released its estimated sales numbers for the first fiscal quarter ending on June 30, 2010. The company reported a whopping 93 percent increase compared to the same period last year, with sales rising to €160 million ($201 million) versus a previous take of €83 million ($104 million). The estimated sales exceeded previous projections of €145 million ($182 million).

The impressive performance came from Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction selling 1.9 million units during the quarter with additional back catalog sales coming from Just Dance, Assassin’s Creed II, and Avatar.

"Our sales performance this quarter reflects the success of several titles and attests to the quality of our game catalog. It’s proof of Ubisoft’s ability to make its mark in an ever demanding video games sector, “ said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. “This year’s E3 further confirmed the potential for our end-of-year line-up, demonstrating how varied and distinct our offering is.”

“Proven franchises such as Assassin’s Creed, Driver and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon will offer unique experiences for seasoned gamers. In particular, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood should allow us to reaffirm our position as one of the industry’s best multiplayer developers. The preorders are the strongest ever seen, already 20 percent above those from the same period last year, even before the awards were announced following E3.”

“In the casual segment, Your Shape: Fitness Evolved, Just Dance 2 or Michael Jackson: The Experience, which have generated particularly promising media coverage, are expected to attract a large number of casual players,” he added. “Finally, Ubisoft will offer a rich line-up of both online games and new titles for the upcoming hardware launches this fiscal year."

For the fiscal second quarter, Ubisoft will be releasing H.A.W.X. 2 and R.U.S.E for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. The company is projecting sales of around €83 million ($104 million), matching sales from the same period last year. Ubisoft also announced that a “competitive holiday market” has caused them to delay the new Driver title from fiscal third quarter to fiscal fourth quarter (calendar Q1 2011).
